Changes to the rules about dogs on the beach

Numerous local residents have contacted me about the Council's formal consultation on changing the rules about dogs on Bournemouth Beach, which ended on 16th January. In total, I took 45 letters to the beach office.

The parts of the beach which have Blue Flags have to be dog free during the batheing season. In addition, from May to September, two sections of the beach at Alum chine and Southbourne are dog free. The proposals would extend these sections to cover more of the beach.

There was informal consultation last Autumn. People who responded generally wanted the rules current rules to be enforced.

From what I can find out, there have been very few, if any, prosecutions for fouling the beach. In my view, if they're not going to be enforced, then changing the rules is only going to affect law abiding and responsible residents and visitors.
